Similar to the first, this text also has the stark white background and the focus is on the women in the text. Instead of a multiple choice question wrinkled or wonderful, the linguistics in this advertisement ask just one question, “Do you believe that real beauty comes in many shapes and sizes?” The women are average women of varying skin colors, hair colors/styles/lengths, all barefoot in their white underwear. These women aren’t the size 00 of supermodels used in most underwear advertisements, in fact, one blog puts the advertisement in comparison to Victoria Secret’s new advertisements, “I love my body” and then poses the question. “Which one makes you love your body?” The emphasis is on the women, put against the contrast of a white background in the center of the frame to show that what Dove is selling is yourself, and nothing different. Even the idea of a woman with tattoos would be unheard of in any makeup advertisement, but here, one of the women even showcases her thigh tattoo.
